Sridevi, who did one of her career's best films - Sadma (1983) - with South filmmaker Balu Mahendra, has teamed up with Mahendra's son Shanky for a documentary.
Meant for a social awareness programme in the US, the documentary also has Hollywood biggies pitching in their support. It is said that the Bollywood diva got nostalgic when shooting this campaign, because Shanky is her mentor's son, and she has fond memories of working with him. While there are people who may remember Sri for her Himmatwala and Mawaali genre of cinema, the fact of the matter is that the more discerning audience still associates her with Sadma, where she played an autistic child-woman, whom Kamal Haasan brings back to the real world with his tender loving care.
Incidentally, sources say Sri's actress cousin Maheshwari, who is well known in Tollywood, has styled her for the documentary.
